BioPax Ltd., based in West Belfast, manufactures sustainable carton packaging, paper wraps and labels for the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and foodservice sectors.
Businesses across these sectors face growing pressure to reduce packaging waste, improve recyclability and lower carbon emissions, while meeting growing customer demands for sustainable products.
Supported by Invest NI, the company has invested in a dedicated manufacturing facility focused on producing certified eco-friendly packaging designed to reduce reliance on single-use plastics.
Its circular economy approach prioritises renewable and recycled fibre-based materials that are recyclable and responsibly sourced.
Alongside the development of sustainable packaging products, BioPax is advancing PFAS-free coatings, inks, varnishes and barrier solutions that avoid the use of harmful synthetic chemicals. This helps reduce environmental impacts associated with conventional packaging while supporting safer material choices throughout the supply chain.
As Dr Terry Cross OBE, Chairman of BioPax Ltd, explains:
The company supplies both local and international brands, helping organisations integrate more sustainable materials into their operations and supply chains.
By embedding circular thinking into product design, procurement and manufacturing, BioPax demonstrates how innovation can reduce waste, improve resource efficiency and support the transition towards a more circular economy.
The investment has created 169 jobs and strengthened Northern Ireland's green manufacturing sector. Additionally, the Belfast site has achieved zero waste to landfill since 2023.
By providing sustainable alternatives to traditional packaging materials, the company is helping local and international brands reduce their environmental footprint while advancing circular economy principles across regional and global supply chains.
