Introduction to Sustainability & Net-Zero
Participants will explore the three pillars of sustainability - environmental, social, and economic - and the essential role the environment plays in supporting a healthy society and economy. Key topics include the challenges and opportunities of sustainable development, the importance of planning for a sustainable future, and the principles of Net Zero. The course equips participants with foundational knowledge on concepts such as planetary boundaries, carbon footprints, social value, and the economic benefits of sustainability.
Course Format:
Level 1
A concise 1-hour introduction covering the fundamentals, ideal if you are short on time or ideal for raising awareness across teams and departments.
By the end of the course, participants will
- Understand the basic concepts of sustainability and Net Zero
- Recognise key terms and jargon and be able to explain them in plain language
- Appreciate the importance of sustainability in a global and local context
- Recognise their role in contributing to organisational and societal change
- Understand the scientific background to climate change and the difference between Net Zero and carbon neutrality
- Explore the three pillars of sustainability – environmental, social and economic – and understand how they interconnect
