Activ8 Solar Energies in partnership with SSE Airtricity, has commenced work on a 6MW rooftop solar installation at Mannok's manufacturing facilities in County Cavan.

Once operational the installation will comprise approximately 10,000 solar panels across 3.9 hectares of rooftop space.

It is expected to provide a significant portion of Mannok's overall electricity demand while avoiding around 792 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Mannok, one of Ireland's and the UK's leading manufacturers of construction products and plastic packaging, said the investment supports its wider sustainability strategy and long-term ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Dara O'Reilly, Chief Executive Officer of Mannok, said "Once complete, the installation will enable us to generate renewable electricity onsite, helping us to reduce our carbon footprint while enhancing the resilience of our manufacturing operations."

The project is fully funded by a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), allowing Mannok to benefit from onsite renewable energy without an upfront capital investment, while also securing long-term energy price certainty.

Under the arrangement, Activ8 Solar Energies and SSE Airtricity will fund, install and maintain the solar PV system, while Mannok purchases the electricity generated at an agreed rate over the duration of the contract.

Ciaran Marron, CEO of Activ8 Energies, noted that the commencement of the project marks a major milestone for both companies. "It demonstrates what can be achieved when ambitious businesses invest in renewable energy at scale."

The development highlights a growing opportunity for large industrial manufacturers to adopt renewable energy through Activ8 and SSE Airtricity’s €200 million funded solar initiative.
