The Innovation Driver and Support Scheme has opened for expressions of interest as part of the Horticulture Pilot Scheme.
The initiative aims to support horticultural businesses in exploring new crops, technologies and production systems that could contribute to a more sustainable and resilient sector.
CAFRE Senior Horticulture Adviser Kieran Lavelle highlighted the role the scheme could play in helping businesses overcome barriers to adopting new approaches.
“This pilot scheme offers financial support to horticultural businesses interested in adopting crops, systems or technologies that are new to Northern Ireland.”
Rather than focusing on a fixed list of projects, businesses are being encouraged to put forward proposals demonstrating how new approaches could support future growth and development.
Eligible commercial horticulture businesses can access 40% funding towards eligible costs, up to a purchase price of £625,000, alongside additional support from agronomy, supply chain and business advisers.
The current expression of interest phase will remain open until 4 September 2026.
