Energy bills are still putting pressure on homes and businesses across Northern Ireland. So how can we heat our buildings in ways that are cleaner, cheaper and made locally?
The next meeting of the All-Party Group on Climate Action, chaired by John Blair MLA, will look at two potential answers: geothermal energy (heat from the ground beneath our feet) and low-carbon heat networks, which pipe heat to many buildings from one shared source.
Speakers will include:
- Northern Ireland Housing Executive: findings from its Low Carbon Programme and what it learned from the GEMINI geothermal project
- Belfast City Council: plans for low-carbon heat networks in the city
- Geological Survey of Northern Ireland: an update on geothermal demonstrator projects and work towards a geothermal policy framework
Party and sector representatives will also have the opportunity to give their views on the energy crisis. The meeting will end with an open Q&A.
APG meetings are open to observers. A joining link can be found on the agenda attached.
