Earlier this month, Sustainable NI delivered a full-day Carbon Literacy Training session for council staff at the Market Place Theatre in Armagh, highlighting the critical role local authorities play in supporting Northern Ireland’s journey towards net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The training explored both the global and local dimensions of climate change, helping participants better understand how a changing climate is already affecting communities and organisations across Northern Ireland, and what action is needed now.
Throughout the day, a range of interactive activities encouraged open discussion on the impacts of climate change and the practical solutions that could be implemented within the organisation. These discussions extended beyond carbon alone, considering the wider implications for health, communities, jobs and the economy, green spaces, resilience, resources, and organisational capacity.
Carbon Literacy Training is designed to empower people with the knowledge, confidence, and motivation to take meaningful climate action in their roles and beyond. Sustainable NI continues to work with councils, organisations, and communities across Northern Ireland to build this capacity and support a just transition to a low-carbon future.
