What is One Planet Mind?

Founded in 2016, One Planet Mind was established as a sustainable fashion brand based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Committed to environmentally friendly practices, it is one of the few clothing retailers in the region prioritising climate-conscious production. Operating as an online store, One Planet Mind offers sustainably made clothing as an alternative to fast fashion. The global textile industry generates over 1 billion tonnes of CO2 annually, while in the UK alone, 300,000 tonnes of clothing are discarded each year—highlighting the persistent impact of fast fashion. The falling cost of materials—driven in part by low-cost production, often under exploitative working conditions—combined with the influence of social media trends, has fueled the rapid growth of the fast fashion industry. However, sustainable clothing brands like One Planet Mind are leading the charge in Northern Ireland towards a future free from fast fashion.

Highlights

  • Achieved carbon neutrality by implementing eco-friendly practices
  • Responsibly sourced materials from organic, fair-trade certified suppliers, reducing the use of defoliants and pesticides while ensuring fair wages for producers
  • Certified by the Oeko-Tex 100 Standard, ensuring all products are safe for human use
  • 95% of water used in production is sourced from monsoon rain, reducing the need for irrigation
  • Wastewater is purified through sand filtration, treatment ponds, and reverse osmosis to ensure environmental responsibility
  • Packaging made from 100% recycled biodegradable cardboard to minimise waste
  • Items are shipped via sea transport to reduce the carbon footprint
  • Powered by 30 wind turbines, making renewable energy the primary source of production power
  • Print to order to minimise unused stock
  • Zero polyester promise, only use natural fabrics to prevent polyester micro fabrics that get washed away with every machine cycle and pollute waterways

Active Partnerships

One planet Mind has partnered with Mangroves in Madagascar a charity that plants mangrove forests in estuaries in Madagascar, supporting biodiversity, conservation and reducing the vulnerability of coastal communities to hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods. Mangroves also capture up to four times more carbon than rainforests per hectare.

Another scheme supported with each purchase is 'Bottle Clean Up with Empower'. Empower is a Norwegian business that incentivises recycling, with 0.30 Euros paid for each returned bottle. Using Blockchain, Empower tracks and monetises plastic worldwide in an attempt to create a plastic exchange scheme and an important way that developing countries can generate revenue in return for cleaning up the environment. Whilst not a silver bullet for the plastic crisis, it's a start.
